Classic Editor vs Editor X - Which is Right for You?

When making websites on Wix, it can seem very overwhelming. Especially since there are several different choices for which editor to use. If you aren't aware already, Wix technically has three editors. Wix Classic, Wix ADI, and Editor X. Now Wix ADI is more of an artificial intelligence editor that should only be used as a starting point for the Classic editor at most.

So now the question really breaks down to - which editor should you use? Feel free to watch our video about it!

As you can see, both editors have their strengths and weaknesses. The Classic editor is geared more towards consumers. Editor X was created more for freelancers and agencies that are committed to creating stunning websites for their clients.

Wix Classic Editor vs Editor X

When to use Editor X?

Editor X is so much more complicated than the Classic editor. Because of this, if you're an entrepreneur trying to create a website for your own business, then Editor X may not be the best option. However, if you're a freelancer or agency wanting to create stunning websites, then Editor X is a must. Also, you do not want to lose clients because you are not familiar with the platform. So it is in your best interest to at least be knowledgable on Editor X.

The reason Editor X is not the best idea for small business owners is because this platform takes a lot longer to understand. There are so many small details that need to be considered to get your site working correctly and become fully responsive.

When to use the Classic Editor?

The Classic editor is a really simple drag and drop editor. It is also a lot simpler to make sure your website is responsive. If you just keep your content in between the guidelines, then the site will work on all screen sizes for desktop and mobile. With that being said, the Classic editor uses pixels. Pixels are an electronic measurement that is not dynamic. Each pixel has a specific width and height. So what you see is what you get... on all screen sizes. This does not have to be negative. If done right, your website can look awesome.

Because the Classic editor is easier to learn, this is the best editor for small business owners creating their own site. If you're a freelancer or agency, you should also know how to use this platform. Because Editor X is so much more complicated, I suggest charging more for that service. However, not all clients will have the funds or budget for your Editor X service. If this is a company you still want to work with, then learning the classic editor would be very beneficial. Plus, it does not take long to learn compared to Editor X.

In conclusion, the choice for which editor you use is up to you. Because Editor X takes too long to learn and set up, I really believe if you're a small business, then you should stick the the Classic editor. You're still able to create a great website with that platform. Otherwise, if you're willing to learn the Editor X platform, then that is a great platform to create an even better website.
